In Today’s Newsletter, we will learn about perpetual check draw

Perpetual Check

.

Perpetual means something happening again and again or endlessly.

In chess, perpetual check means giving check back-to-back which can lead to a threefold repetition draw.

Let us see some examples to understand this better.

Black to play and make perpetual draw

.

Here, white is completely winning with an extra rook on the board. However, black can do a perpetual draw by playing Qh3 check, White has to play Qh2 and then black plays Qf1, then white has to play Qg1, then black plays Qh3 which can lead to a perpetual draw.

Black to Play and make a perpetual draw

.

Here, white is having a pawn on d7 which is going to get promoted soon. So, black has to act quickly. Black can do a perpetual draw by playing

Qf2 Kh1 Qh4 Kg1 Qf2 Kh1 Qh4 which can lead to a perpetual draw.
